Research

Central-Northen Region Crop Research Center

We are developing and disseminating rice, corn, adzuki bean, and forage cereals suitable for the central-northern climate, as well as their cultivation technologies.
Gwangpyeongok2 Hwarang1 Rayeon
  • Rice – selection and dissemination of domestic varieties to replace foreign rice
    • (Variety Selection) Selection of new varieties adapted to four regions in the Gyeonggi Province, including Yongin, due to the suspension of 'Akibare' certified seed production
    • (Expand Dissemination) Reducing the cultivation area of foreign rice to less than 10,000 hectares with domestic varieties by 2027 through the adoption of domestic rice varieties
  • Corn – development and dissemination of feed and food corn varieties
    • (Cultivar Development) Developing 'Gwangpyeongok2', a variety that adapts to paddy cultivation, and 'Chalok5', a variety with excellent taste
    • (Expanding Dissemination) Achieving a 50% domestic seed dissemination rate by 2028 through on-site evaluations, expansion of seed dissemination councils, etc
  • Legumes – development of adzuki bean varieties with improved adaptability to various cropping systems and processing quality
    • 'Hongchan' – A high-quality adzuki bean bean variety with large, bright red seeds, a high grain yield, and a rich content of antioxidants, making it excellent for bean paste processing
    • 'Hongda' – An early-maturing, medium-sized, high-quality adzuki bean variety adaptable to both early and late sowing, and highly suitable for bean paste processing
  • Forage cereals – development and dissemination of triticale and oat varieties to improve forage self-sufficiency
    • Triticale 'Hwarang1' – early-maturing, multiple-disease resistant, Oat 'Rayeon' – early-maturing, multiple-disease resistant
  • Cultivation research – development of climate-adaptive rice cultivation technologies for the central plains of Korea
    • Determine suitable varieties, seedling period, planting density, and nitrogen fertilization to optimize yield and quality
